The Language Journey.
In this course I have been able to research and show how language affects and even oppresses. For my research paper I wrote a letter to all of those Hispanic immigrant students who just entered school after coming from a new country and new culture. I wrote about my own experiences here also coming as an immigrant student who has succeeded to learn a new language and culture and be able to, now, attend college. I wrote

(Vasquez, 22). Being able to express myself as if I was writing this letter to my younger self. I sometimes wished someone had reminded me or wrote to me something like I have done here. Before this course I had never really thought about writing a letter in this way, I have written my story many times in the past but writing it in this format really helped identify with my younger self and hopefully be able to show this to any future or recent students who have been in my place. Not only have I been able to identify through this letter in the course but I have also been able to learn new formats of writing which can be beneficial and help out with my identification in this language journey. I believe thus course has allowed me to open up about something I never really spoke about with people other than friends and family and I feel like my story s a good story to help those student who feel helpless in an alien country with a culture that they never experienced before.
During my journey I realized that just like me, there were many students who struggled with their first language an being unable to communicate with friends and classmates who didn’t understand them, however they improved just like I did. It feels good to know I wasn’t alone in this experience, however it also upsets me that discrimination is faced by many young students in this country. This course has opened my eyes and has made me want to change people’s minds for the better.
In the future I would like to write to those student who aren’t able to communicate with ease and to those who don’t really understand what its like to go through these struggles as a young student. I would like to inspire and help students like me and future students who are coming to the United States of America. My audience doesn’t have to stay in the classroom it can be anyone in the world who wants to read and is interested in this topic.
Thanks to this course, I want to inspire people and would like to help them out, and thanks to my improvement in this course I will be able to do so in the future.
I also learned new citation techniques and learned that I can cite more than just a book, for my letter assignment I was able to cite my own words, something I didn’t know I could do. Another thing I also learned was that revision of a paper is vital to improving writing. My classmates were able to revise my writing and were able to help me develop and better my assignments.
Before this course I wasn’t aware of synthesis, but since I learned its meaning and applied it to my writing my assignments looked better and I was able to elevate the level of writing, this is an example of a synthesis.
(Vasquez, synthesis)
For my future classes, I am able to say that I have improved in my writing, thanks to this course and I can apply everything I learned and make my papers, and writing much more interesting and in-depth.
